Patsy Beattie-Huggan
ASI Coordinator
Patsy Beattie-Huggan, BN, MScN is the founder and President of The Quaich Inc., a PEI based health promotion and consulting company. She holds a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of New Brunswick (UNB) and MSc in Nursing and Health Studies from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. Patsy has a broad background in nursing education and health system redesign, and has served as consultant to provincial, national and international projects, and instrumental in the founding and ongoing delivery of the Atlantic Summer Institute on Healthy and Safe Communities. In 2016 she coordinated the 6th Global Forum on Health Promotion. Her creative work in health promotion, including leadership to the development of the Circle of Health, has been widely recognized. Patsy’s commitment to caring, compassionate communities has led her to explore innovative and collaborative approaches to working for social change. In 2020 she was awarded the UNB Alumni Award of Distinction.
Mya MacDonald
Communications and Event Planning Coordinator
This summer, Mya is working as the communications and event planning coordinator for ASI. Hailing from the shores of Cape Breton, she is currently completing her Bachelor of Commerce degree at Saint Mary’s University, with a focus on Marketing and a minor in French. Through Mya’s active participation in the Saint Mary’s Enactus team, she has cultivated her dedication to building sustainable communities and ignited her passion for entrepreneurship.
Ellen Theuerkauf
Communications and Event Planning Coordinator – mentor
Studying in the food and nutrition program at UPEI (2024), Ellen’s areas of interest include food security, healthy and sustainable diets, and food waste. A 2014 UPEI grad in anthropology, she has gained valuable work experience in the non-profit sector, including contributions with the Canadian Red Cross and Confederation Centre of the Arts, within the Marketing and Development Department. A proud Islander, her skills include event management and marketing, social media communications, record-keeping, and client administration.
Stacie Smith
Youth Leadership Program Coordinator
Stacie Smith completed a Health, Wellness, and Recreation certificate from Eastern College in 2014, an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from Dalhousie University in 2020, and a professional degree in Education from the University of New Brunswick in 2022. She is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Recently, she was a Co-Chair of the Youth Advisory Council of the Youth Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Services Review conducted by the NB Child and Youth Advocate’s office. She is also the founder of the Mental Health Student Support Network, a Groundbreaker with Frayme, Co-Executive Director of the Young Canadians Roundtable on Health, and a co-lead of the Mental Health International Youth Advisory Committee (G1G). She is passionate about youth mental health, youth engagement school food, and food insecurity. She is looking forward to working with youth in the leadership program this summer!
Chantal Peng (she/her)
Youth Leadership Program Coordinator – mentor
Youth engagement is at the core of Chantal Peng’s advocacy and outreach. A recent graduate of Acadia University’s Bachelor of Music program, she is attending Dalhousie Law School in the fall. In summer 2019, Chantal had the life-changing opportunity to attend ASI as a Youth Leadership Program participant and is excited to return this year as the Youth Leadership Coordinator. She looks forward to engaging with youth from across Atlantic Canada in this year’s Forum.
Anne Götz
International Intern
Studying her second bachelor of Safety and Security Engineering at the University of Furtwangen (Germany), Anne currently completed her Public Health Master’s in Denmark. Already during her Health Science (B.Sc.) degree, she developed her passion for the holistic approach to health promotion in all aspects of life and cultures, which also took up a large part of both of her studies. Being involved in a study project located in the Dominican Republic, she found her passion for Menstrual Health and Health Literacy.
Anne is involved in the management and online delivery part of ASI and is excited to come back to the island again soon.
